About the Slimline cinch

The Mattes Slimline Western Cinch combines Mattes’ pressure-distributing construction with a narrower, leather-covered design.

It is particularly suitable for horses with limited space between the elbows and the cinch, or where a less bulky cinch is required. The Slimline design is approximately 2cm narrower than the equivalent quilted Mattes cinch.

The base is constructed from premium leather over specially designed Poly-Flex® inserts, which help distribute pressure across the cinch. The dense, genuine sheepskin provides cushioning and helps protect against rubbing and chafing.

The Soft Edge design provides additional comfort, while the shaping around the elbows allows greater freedom of movement. The sheepskin cover is fully removable for easier cleaning and replacement covers can be purchased separately.

The cinch is fitted with stainless-steel buckles and two central D-rings for the appropriate attachment of a martingale or rear-cinch hobble strap.

Mattes cinches can also be particularly useful with treeless saddles because of their pressure-distributing construction.

Which Slimline shape does my horse need?

Contoured

A versatile, symmetrical shape suitable for many horses. It is shaped away from both elbows to provide additional freedom of movement.

Asymmetric

Designed for close-coupled horses where there is limited space between the horse’s elbows and the natural cinch position. It is cut back more strongly at the front to provide additional elbow clearance.

Crescent

Designed for rounder horses, horses with wide-sprung ribs or those with a narrower chest. Its curved shape accommodates the ribcage and helps prevent the cinch and saddle from being drawn forwards.

Athletico

Designed for athletic or wedge-shaped horses whose conformation encourages the cinch and saddle to move backwards. Its shape helps the cinch remain in its natural position.

Size and colour options

Please measure your horse carefully before selecting a size. Do not rely solely on the labelled size of an existing cinch, as different manufacturers may measure their products differently.

The Slimline does not have a quilted outer fabric, so quilt and binding colours are not applicable.

Colour advice

If you have a pale-coloured horse, we recommend choosing a lighter sheepskin colour. On occasion, dye from darker sheepskin may transfer when wet.

Some fading of the wool’s surface is also possible. This can be affected by the individual composition of the horse’s sweat and does not necessarily indicate a product fault.

Custom-order delivery

Custom-made to order — estimated delivery 4–8 weeks.

You have 24 hours after placing your order to contact us about any changes or cancellation. After this period, your order will be submitted to Mattes and cannot normally be changed or cancelled.

Please check your chosen size, shape, leather colour and sheepskin colour carefully before ordering.

Returns

Mattes products purchased from our available stock may be returned in accordance with our standard returns policy, provided they are unused, clean and returned in their original condition and packaging.

Custom-made Mattes cinches are manufactured specifically to the customer’s chosen size, shape and colours. Once the order has been submitted to Mattes, it cannot normally be changed, cancelled or returned because the customer has changed their mind.

If we agree, at our discretion, to accept the return of a correctly supplied, non-faulty custom-made product, a 25% restocking charge will be deducted from the refund.

This does not affect the customer’s statutory rights where an item is faulty, damaged or differs from the confirmed order.
